Services:
Catholic Charities operates a number of community service centers in eastern Massachusetts. The centers provide a wide variety of support services including some emergency assistance, education and training programs, HIV/AIDS prevention education, housing, and mental health and substance abuse counseling.
The Boston area centers are:
Dorchester: Yawkey Center, 185 Columbia Rd., 02121. Call: 617-506-6600. Center offers basic emergency services, programs targeted to Haitians, Asians, and Cape Verdeans, parenting programs, and access to several housing and shelter programs.
Must be a resident of Suffolk County. Open M – Th: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and F 9 a.m. – 12 noon. Best to call in advance. Walk-ins are discouraged. Take bus #16 from Andrew Station on Red line, or bus #19 or #23 from Dudley.
Dorchester: Haitian Multi-Service Center, at Yawkey Center. Call: 617-474-1009. Center offers basic emergency help, mental health and substance abuse counseling, adult education and career training, ESOL, and HIV/AIDS prevention education.
Somerville: 270 Washington St., Somerville 02143. Call: 617-625-1920. The Center provides basic emergency assistance and a variety of residential programs.
Must be a resident of Middlesex County. Open M – Th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
South Boston: Laboure Center, 275 W. Broadway, 02127. Call: 617-464-8565. The Center provides basic emergency assistance and family counseling. The Center may also provide referrals and advocacy.
Open M – F, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Take Broadway bus #9.
South End: El Centro del Cardenal, 76 Union Park St., 02118. Call: 617-542-9292. Targeted to Latino residents of Boston, center offers programs in adult education and career training, English for Employment, ESOL classes, the Young Parents Program, and mental health and substance abuse counseling.
Open M – F, 8:30 a.m. – noon and 1 – 8 p.m. Walk-ins are accepted. Located at Harrison Ave and Union Park St. in South End, next to back of Holy Cross Cathedral. Enter at big red door. Take Orange line, Back Bay stop, or Silver line, Union Park stop.
