Newmarket Business Improvement District

The Newmarket Business Improvement District (est. 2022 by property owners, business owners, and residents) is committed to making the district safer and more accessible. Newmarket is in central Boston home to a range of businesses from food distribution, distilleries, and schools.

Services & Programs:

Safety & Security: In 2022, the BID partnered with New England Security to provide 24/7 security throughout Newmarket. The BID’s security team helps reduce minor incidents by responding quickly and preventing issues that could lead to 911 calls which has helped decrease 911 calls by about 13% in the first five months.

Homeless Back2Work Program: The BID offers work opportunities to individuals who are homeless or struggling with addiction in the area. This program provides an important step toward reentry for individuals, giving them a chance to contribute to the community while rebuilding their lives.

  • Clean Streets Program: The BID’s Back2Work team works to clean Newmarket, from picking up trash and needles to power washing sidewalks and removing graffiti. The team also plants flowers and landscapes in public spaces to create a cleaner, safer, and more inviting district. On average, the team picks up 50 trash bags daily and cleans all Newmarket streets weekly.

Transportation: The BID operates a free Newmarket Shuttle, which connects the district to the Red Line, Orange Line, and Fairmount Line. This service is available to all Newmarket residents, employees, and property owners.

Recover Boston Addiction Initiative: In 2017, the Newmarket Business Association, the group that later formed the BID, launched the Recover Boston Addiction Initiative in collaboration with Mayor Martin Walsh. This program focuses on supporting addiction recovery and providing critical resources for individuals and communities affected by addiction.
